Dear all
The Trivandrum Corporation were out on Saturday 29th November at Karraivattom campus catching the dogs and killing them.I am sure that the corporation is out killing dogs everyday but the situation is now so common place that we are not informed so much.
The above happened in front of students and I have had a couple of them come to visit me yesterday (the day after the killing) very upset.
Our case against Trivandrum Corporation comes up in the Munsiff Court in Trivandrum within the next few weeks.
In a case in the High Court in Cochin that was bought by a Trivandrum citizen against the Corporation which ended on 4th Sept 2007, the Corporation had said it is doing the ABC/AR programme. This is completely untrue .

We have receipt of an RTI (Right to Information) which we have got the Corporation to answer ,and we believe it proves beyond a shadow of a doubt that the Corporation is killing on a big scale and in a cruel illegal fashion .
We have got an Advocate in Cochin to take out a contempt order on the Corporation.
I do not believe even if we win the case in the Munsiff Court that the Corporation will stop the killing.
Please sign our Petition to help us get 100,000 signatures and force the High Court in Delhi to take up the issue of the killing of street dogs in Kerala.
Our Petition is backed by WSPA with whom we are a Member Society and is run by Citizens for Animals Rights,in Delhi.
Thanking you avis lyons

An update from our founder, Avis Lyons

On Wednesday 30th Jan we went to the Panchayath (local council) office to sort out some planning papers.
The Centre's manager, Joypaul, was with me. I do not speak Malaylam so had he not been with me and had we not gone for other purposes we would not have known of
the events that were supposed to follow.

Joypaul told me that a dog killer that had been called by the Panchayath had come into the office and complained about the accommadation he had been given . Joypaul
pointed the man out to me. He went over to speak to the dog killer ,and as the man did not know who we were he gave my employee all the information. They were to kill
starting from the following morning ,with cyanide. This area is my Memoerandum of understanding (mou) area!
(mou - this is a legally binding document between anon-government organisation, or NGO,
and local government within which the NGO agrees to implement the Animal Birth Control/AntiRabies programme , and the local government agrees not to kill dogs in that area)

We phoned Dr chinny Krishna of the Blue Cross, he contacted the Animal Welfare Board of India, awbi, and gave us a number, they contacted secretary Trivandrum and Panchayath secretary, Mr A G Babu , from the spca in another part of Kerala was informed, and we were told to take notices round that night ,to police and Panchayath secretary . We have since had to put notices into the secretariat. The dog killers were sent home, Thank God.
A notice has been sent out in malaylam from Animal Husbandry dept. Trivandrum to all animal husbandry dept. offices, saying that killing cannot be done due to a
court case judgement of March 2006 and every panchayath should consider implimenting
its own abc programme.I think we may be getting somewhere, but it does not help all the thousands of
dogs that have already been killed throughout Kerala in a cruel barbaric way.
